In honor of Women's History Month, we have designated Laura Law-Millett, the co-founder of the GI Film Festival, a HeroVet. At Veterans Advantage, we've looked for ways art merges with reality as it relates to the military experience, and Millett has done the same through her GI Film Festival, now celebrating its 10th Anniversary this May.
As our nation's veteran community and the filmmaking industry continue to see the increased influence of women, Law-Millett will continue to be one to watch.
Veterans Advantage has celebrated the achievements of our nation's women veterans over the years, most recently with Linda Spoonster Schwartz, Assistant Secretary of Policy and Planning for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Other great women who have served in our nation's military include: Army Gen. Ann E. Dunwoody, the first female four-star general; Eileen Collins, the first female space shuttle commander, Capt. Vernice Armour, the Marine Corps' first African-American female combat pilot; Bonnie Carroll, founder of Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) and an Air Force veteran; and Brig. Gen. Wilma L. Vaught, USAF (Ret.), president of the Women's Memorial Foundation.
